My definition of New York: a million books to discover, with each chapter more intricate and compelling than the last. The people and the places all tell their own tale. Some whisper of aspirations and loves, while others whisper of lost hope and sinking depression. It’s beautiful and simple and painful all at once. It’s New York.

Today BOSS worked with the relief bus which in short is a bus that goes around giving help to those in need. They supply the homeless population with: shelter, food, information regarding health, information regarding detox, and other helpful items and tidbits. We, boss, worked specifically in the serving of food, drinks, distributing socks, and praying with people. We served these people food from one area. In another area we engaged in conversation and prayer with the people.

That was my favorite part. I didn’t expect it to be my favorite part, I was actually really nervous to pray and talk to these people. I mean, no one wants to mess up in front of others and say the wrong thing, but God led us to say the right things.

We really got to connect with these people. All of us got to hear different stories and about different chapters of peoples lives. We felt their pain. We felt their struggle. But a lucky few of us got to feel their hope.

The people we served emanted something intangible, something hard and painful. To be honest I can’t exactly put my finger on what it is, but I could compare it someone trying to stand up only to be shoved right back down. For some of these people it seemed that all the odds were stacked against them. But here they were trying to get help.

The relief bus sent six people to detox which is a gift that could only come from God. They also supplied a bunch of people with full stomachs and socks and some medical care. They also supplied people with Gods word and prayer and the seeds to plant a beautiful relationship with our Lord. Then later, we went and worked with kids from near Mott Haven church where we got to play with these amazing people. We got to form more friendships and relationships. We learned more about these peoples stories and different parts of those stories, which is way cool.

Throughout the day we got to work with different people, from different areas with different stories. It helped me to grow as a person and as a Christian. And hopefully we implanted the workings to be a new chapter for them. A happier chapter. A God oriented chapter. A chapter filled with love for a change, Gods amazing love.
