When I heard about this mission trip one Tuesday night at my school’s Wesley foundation, a college campus ministry, I looked straight at my roommate and said, “we’ve gotta do that!”. I knew that I didn’t want to go back to my hometown for spring break, I wanted to DO something. When I started to hear more about this trip for hurricane disaster relief I started to crave it more and more even though I did not know what the plan was until the night my group arrived in New York for the trip, I still couldn’t wait to see what was in store. With not knowing the plan I had to be flexible, which I had recently discovered needed to be my “new thing”.
A lot of people think that when going on a “mission trip” you have to go door to door telling people about Jesus, and yes that was a certain aspect of this trip, but I wouldn’t say it was the main one, at least for me. I have been out of the country to serve people of this world, but I hadn’t served in the states aside from local trips so to come to New York and just serve is what was heavy on my heart. In any opportunity I love sharing Jesus’s name and this trip abled me to share His name through my actions.
I wanted to get down and dirty and DO service and that it was I did. I got to put my back into many different things over these past few days and I loved every minute of the coldness, freezzingness, and numbness. I love how in the Bible Jesus served His children and wanted to DO things for them, and this week I got further my love for serving His children and I also got to love the people of this world, which God created, and that in my mind is beautiful work.
